Port of San Francisco Facility Condition Assessments

As the technical lead for the building enclosure waterproofing assessments, SGH evaluated the condition and performance of exterior wall, waterproofing, roofing, and fenestration systems. The buildings featured a range of facade materials (brick masonry, corrugated metal panels, plaster finishes, and wood shingles), roofing systems (low-slope membranes and steep-slope metal roofing), and fenestration types (wood- and aluminum-framed punched windows, metal-framed ribbon windows, and roll-up and egress doors). Highlights of our work include:

• Visually surveying roof and facade components from the ground, accessible roof levels, and interior spaces
• Ranking the condition of the enclosure systems with a scale ranging from “like new condition” to “immediate major repairs and/or replacement needed”
• Developing prioritized repair recommendations and cost estimates for immediate (one-year), ten-year, twenty-year, and thirty-year planning horizons based on observed deterioration and expected service life

Our assessments helped the Port of San Francisco develop long-term strategies for managing enclosure and roofing assets across multiple facilities.
