University of Florida Honors Village

Scope/Solutions

Needing more housing for its growing undergraduate population, the University of Florida undertook a project to add space for 1,400 students. The Honors Village includes four residence halls and a commons building. Working with the design-build team, SGH consulted on the building enclosure for the project.

SGH consulted on the design of below-grade waterproofing, exterior wall assemblies, fenestrations, and roofing. Highlights of our work include:

  • Reviewing the proposed building enclosure design for airtightness, watertightness, thermal performance, vapor permeance, fire performance compliance, and constructability
  • Making design recommendations for below-grade waterproofing and elevator pits, air/water/vapor-resistive barriers, wall assemblies clad with aluminum composite panels, windows, curtain walls, storefront, and roofing
  • Helping detail flashing at critical wall, fenestration, and roofing locations
  • Consulting on proposed stick-built and panelized wall construction techniques
  • Assisting with the development of air and water infiltration testing protocols for installed enclosure assemblies
  • Providing construction phase services, including reviewing related submittals, visiting the site to observe ongoing work, and helping the project team address field conditions
