Montgomery College, Bioscience Education Center

Scope/Solutions

The Bioscience Education Center allows Montgomery College to expand opportunities for undergraduate research and course offerings. The 145,000 sq ft building houses classrooms, offices, laboratories, and meeting rooms to support the biology and chemistry departments. Working for the third-party commissioning agent, SGH consulted on the building enclosure during the design and construction phases of the project.

SGH worked closely with the owner and architect during the design phase to define and document the owner’s performance criteria for the building enclosure systems. SGH helped the design team meet these criteria by recommending durable building enclosure systems and developing details with considerations for future maintenance.

During the construction phase, SGH collaborated with the owner, architect, and contractor to provide quality assurance through observations of building enclosure mockups, construction, and field testing. We also helped the project team improve the window perimeter flashing configuration through mockups and during construction.
