Montauk Lighthouse
The octagonal lighthouse suffered from chronic leakage and numerous repairs attempts were unsuccessful. SGH investigated the cause of leakage and designed repairs for this National Historic Landmark.

Edgell Memorial Library
Scope/Solutions
Edgell Memorial Library was constructed circa 1872 and consists of load-bearing masonry walls, double-hung and fixed wood windows, and slate roofs. Built to commemorate veterans of the Civil War, the building originally functioned as a library and is now occupied by the Framingham History Center with portions of it used to store artifacts. The building is located in the Framingham Center Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As part of a full exterior envelope rehabilitation, SGH was retained in 2007 to investigate leakage of the historic slate roofs.
SGH investigated the condition of the slate shingle roof and recommended roof replacement. SGH subsequently provided design and construction administration services for work that also included repair of masonry chimneys and replacement of steel-framed skylights. In the following repair phases, SGH investigated the condition of the historic wood windows and designed a restoration of the windows to address deterioration and improve the thermal performance of the windows while maintaining the original appearance. The first phase of the wood window restoration was followed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation Northeast Regional Office as a model project. We also provided design and construction administration services for cleaning and restoration of the exterior masonry walls and front steps.
