MBTA Lynn Commuter Rail Station

After our initial assessment, the MBTA retained SGH to implement immediate repairs and provide construction-phase services as part of the first phase of facility improvements and upgrades.

The design schedule was compressed to achieve substantial construction completion in fall 2016. In addition to the immediate repairs to eliminate tripping hazards throughout the facility, the project included upgrading the mechanical system and architectural features in a tenant space for a community college and mitigating leaks into their space. Highlights of our work include the following:

• Serving as the prime consultant and overseeing work to upgrade HVAC equipment, install new interior finishes, remediate hazardous materials such as molded walls, and improve site lighting
• Designing waterproofing for the garage, brick walls, and canopy roofing to eliminate leaks into the community college space
• Specifying replacement of deteriorated treads on the stairway used to access the community college from the garage
• Designing site features to mitigate tripping hazards and ponding issues, including replacing all paver and brick walking surfaces throughout the station with concrete slabs and replacing the top surface of the asphalt busway pavement
